CS373 Fall 2021: Week 13

What did you do this past week?

This past week, I finished up Phase III with my group and began preparing for a Physics II exam next Monday. The exams for this class have been increasing in difficulty, so I have been spending more time reviewing lecture notes and other review material. I also finished up an essay assignment for my business law and ethics class, which did not take too much of my time.

What’s in your way?

My upcoming Physics II test is the last hurdle for me to overcome before I can settle in for Thanksgiving Break. Hopefully, it will go well. Other than that, I also need to start searching for ways to earn school credit while working at my internship next semester.

What will you do next week?

After finishing up my Physics II exam, I will be driving back to Houston for Thanksgiving break. I have been feeling a bit homesick lately, so spending time at home for half a week is definitely a relief. I will also begin working on my new Neural Networks assignment, which will definitely take me a while to solve.

If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #13: Why Extends Is Evil?

I thought this paper served as a great extension to the previous papers about getters and setters. Again, I am always appreciative of how these articles turn our knowledge of object-oriented design over its head, and this article is no exception.

What was your experience of SQL?

I have had plenty of SQL experience throughout my job and internship experiences. As a result, these past few lectures have been pretty easy to follow. The last two exercises were pretty straightforward to solve, as well.

What made you happy this week?

This weekend, me and my roommate took a drive over to Ikea for some furniture. My apartment definitely needed some new decorations to spice up its look, so this trip was no waste of time at all. For example, I bought a large corkboard for my room, which will help me pay better attention to important documents and offer another medium for room decorations.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

If you are constantly annoyed by CSS’ syntax, consider SASS, or “Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets.” It is a preprocessor scripting language that is interpreted or compiled into CSS. This new syntax is designed to enhance readability and ease the stylesheet coding experience with the use of data types, variables, and easier logical nesting.
